This is what started the Fallen Marine Memorial Run
Sgt Miles made a promise to all of his men in his unit just before they were deployed to Iraq. He promised them that he would make sure they would all return home safely. On January 24, 2006, Sgt Miles and his unit were on patrol in Iraq when his unit began to take enemy fire, he saw one of his Marines pinned down and panicking. Sgt Miles selflessly and instinctively pushes him to safety and saved the life of his Marine, but exposes himself to enemy fire in the process and he himself took a fatal shot. Sgt Sean H. Miles paid the ultimate price just 2 short weeks before he and his men were scheduled to return home. His welcome home party was already planned, the banner was ready, the invitations out, the cake was ordered. This joyous celebration turned into a very sad and somber good-bye. Sgt Miles did however keep his promise to his men, they all did return home safely, everyone that is but him. It is because of the heroic actions of Sgt. Miles and so many other Marines like him that has inspired us to create an annual event to raise money to pay tribute to those men and women. Our goal is to continue to honor the memory of our Fallen Marines and help to secure the future of their children left behind. We also pledge to ensure that each and every grieving mother, father, wife, brother and sister know that we care and are grateful for our freedom and sad for their sacrifice. The Fallen Marine Memorial Run began in Feb 2006 when the photo of a 2 year old Tyler Miles in his little dressed blues pointing at his father’s flagged draped casket was posted in a local paper. Tyler was saying “That’s Daddy” to his grieving mother. This photo has since been the driving force behind Jerry Vanasdale and Veronica Michleski to see to the success of this run, as well as a somber reminder to all of us that However, today’s economic conditions make it difficult for the Fallen Marine Memorial Run to meet our goals without the assistance from corporations and private donors like you. We are, therefore, inviting you and your business to make a tax deductible donation to this year’s event. The only benefit you will receive is to know that you took part in assisting the family of someone who stood on the front line and sacrificed their life for the sake of your freedom. Remember, Each of these men and woman stood up one day and said “me, I will do it, I will train rigorously day after day, to complete and utter exhaustion, to set myself on the front lines to protect the freedom of millions of people I have never met, nor will ever meet”. “I will do it” The rest of us went about our lives never even realizing that if not for them, “The Few, The Proud, The Marines”, we would not be living the free life we all take for granted. Please make a donation in honor of your freedom, Imagine if you didn’t have it. |
